Centrifugal Sifter

The Centrifugal Sifter was developed by Xinxiang Jiarui Mechanical & Electrical Manufacturing Co., Ltd. with the aim of meeting the GMP certification process requirements of the pharmaceutical and food industries. It is the result of extensive optimization, innovation, and refinement based on traditional air-jet screens.

The Centrifugal Sifter features a cylindrical screen housed within the machine. After passing through a screw conveyor system, the material is mixed with an air stream, atomized, and fed into the screen cylinder. The impeller blades inside the cylinder subject the material to both centrifugal force and cyclonic thrust, The raw material mixture enters the machine through the air inlet. With the assistance of an intelligent turbine, the individual particles are dispersed and pass through the composite screen in an orderly manner, proceeding in the direction of the airflow to the next process step, while non-compliant impurities and foreign matter are intercepted and discharged through the automatic discharge port. This achieves the goal of highly efficient separation. The machine is widely used in industries such as metallurgy, mining, pharmaceuticals, food, chemicals, metal powders, and non-metals.

What is centrifugal sifting

The Centrifugal Sifter is a high-precision screening device specifically designed for processing fine powders. It breaks away from the traditional screening principle that relies on gravity and pioneers a new approach to kinetic screening that utilizes high-speed airflow as a carrier. Its core operating principle involves using airflow within a sealed system to fully disperse and suspend powder particles, propelling them with sufficient kinetic energy toward a vertically mounted screen, thereby achieving rapid and efficient classification based on particle size. This design is particularly well-suited for processing powdered materials ranging from 80 to 500 mesh (and even finer up to 600 mesh). It is especially effective at resolving screen clogging issues associated with “difficult-to-screen powders”—such as those that are lightweight, prone to agglomeration, electrically charged, or sticky—and typically achieves a screening efficiency of over 95%.

As a manufacturer with over twenty years of deep industry experience, Jiarui Electromechanical offers Centrifugal Sifters and customization services that provide significant advantages in meeting high-standard industrial requirements. The company offers comprehensive custom-engineering services, tailoring the overall machine dimensions, pneumatic systems, screen frame structures, mesh sizes, and even supporting systems based on customers’ on-site conditions, material characteristics (such as high-risk powders in the lithium-ion battery, fine chemicals, and pharmaceutical industries), explosion-proof ratings, and production capacity requirements. For example, the company’s independently developed JRQ800-1S pneumatic centrifugal sifter uses a pure air-powered drive to replace traditional electric motors, eliminating the risk of electrical sparks at the source and meeting the requirements of special explosion-proof operating conditions. The equipment is also equipped with an optimized adhesive-bonded mesh frame and silicone vibration balls, which automatically clean the screen to prevent clogging, significantly improving screening efficiency and continuous operation performance. Additionally, Jiarui Electromechanical supports OEM and ODM manufacturing partnerships. Leveraging its fully in-house R&D and manufacturing production lines, the company provides one-stop, turnkey solutions for high-risk powder production, ensuring the efficient, safe, and stable operation of the equipment.

Working Principle of Centrifugal Sifter

The Centrifugal Sifter is a high-precision screening device specifically designed for the efficient classification of ultrafine powders (80 to 500 mesh). It completely departs from the operating principle of traditional screeners, which rely on the gravitational potential energy of the material, and pioneers a new screening method that uses high-speed airflow as a carrier and harnesses the kinetic energy of the carrier fluid to perform the work. Its core objective is to project fully dispersed powder particles onto the screen mesh with sufficient kinetic energy in a sealed environment, thereby achieving rapid and precise separation. It is particularly effective at processing “difficult-to-screen” materials that are lightweight, prone to agglomeration, or electrically charged.

Its operating principle can be broken down into the following key steps:

Step 1: Mixing and Atomization: The material first passes through a screw conveyor system, where it is thoroughly mixed with a high-speed airflow and atomized, forming a gas-solid two-phase flow. This process effectively breaks up the material’s initial agglomerated state, laying the foundation for subsequent single-particle classification.

Step 2: Kinetic Energy Impartation and Ejection: The mixed gas-solid two-phase flow enters the interior of the cylindrical screen cylinder. The high-speed impeller blades inside the screen cylinder subject the material to both powerful centrifugal force and cyclonic propulsion. Under the combined action of these two forces, the material particles acquire sufficient kinetic energy and are propelled at high speed toward the screen mesh.

Step 3: Classification and Screening: Fine powder particles that are light in mass and meet size specifications are carried by the kinetic energy of the airflow, passing smoothly through the screen mesh openings and exiting through the fine material discharge port to proceed to the next process. Coarse particles and impurities that are too large or insufficiently dispersed cannot pass through the screen mesh and are flung toward the inner wall of the screen cylinder by centrifugal force.

Step 4: Automatic Screen Cleaning and Discharge of Residue: While propelling the material, the high-speed airflow continuously washes over the screen surface. This process itself serves as an efficient automatic screen-cleaning mechanism, effectively preventing fine powder from adhering to or clogging the screen. Additionally, during operation, non-conforming coarse material moves along the inner wall of the screen cylinder and is ultimately discharged from the machine through a separate coarse material outlet (automatic residue discharge port), enabling continuous operation.

This aerodynamic design gives the Centrifugal Sifter significant advantages when processing ultrafine powders, including high screening efficiency (up to 95% or higher), high throughput (5–10 times that of traditional vibrating screens), no screen clogging, and high precision. It is widely used in demanding industries such as chemicals, pharmaceuticals, food, and metallurgy.

FAQs

A centrifugal sifter is used for high-precision screening and classification of fine powders ranging from 80 to 500 mesh. It is especially suitable for materials that are lightweight, prone to agglomeration, or difficult to screen using traditional vibrating screens, such as pharmaceutical powders, food ingredients, chemical powders, and metal powders. It improves separation efficiency while ensuring consistent particle size distribution.

A centrifugal sifter works by using high-speed airflow combined with centrifugal force to disperse powder particles inside a sealed cylindrical screen. The material is first atomized and suspended in airflow, then pushed by impeller blades toward the screen surface. Fine particles pass through the mesh while oversized particles are discharged automatically, enabling continuous and efficient separation.

A centrifugal sifter uses airflow and centrifugal force for screening, while a vibrating screen relies on mechanical vibration and gravity. Centrifugal sifters are more suitable for ultrafine, sticky, or electrostatically charged powders, offering higher efficiency and less clogging. Vibrating screens are better for coarse particles and simpler screening tasks.

A centrifugal sifter is typically designed for mesh sizes ranging from 80 to 500 mesh, and in some optimized systems it can handle up to 600 mesh fine powder. It is particularly effective for ultrafine powder classification where high precision and stable throughput are required.

Centrifugal sifters are widely used in industries such as pharmaceuticals, food processing, chemicals, metallurgy, mining, ceramics, and battery materials. They are especially important in applications requiring strict particle size control, GMP compliance, or high-purity material processing.

A centrifugal sifter prevents clogging because high-speed airflow continuously cleans the screen surface during operation. At the same time, the centrifugal force keeps particles in motion, reducing adhesion and agglomeration. Some systems also use automatic cleaning devices such as vibration balls or ultrasonic anti-blocking systems for enhanced performance.
